Over the past four years the ICEF Middle East & Africa Workshop has grown and altered to respond to educators' needs. Today it is the annual networking exchange for student recruitment professionals active in the Middle East, Africa, Turkey and South Asia.

The ICEF Middle East & Africa Workshop in 2009 hosted 322 participants representing 230 organisations from 49 countries, signifying an increase of 8% in the total number of organisations attending compared to the 2008 event. With the additional focus in 2009 on agents from all African countries, as well as Turkey, the number of agent countries increased by an impressive 74%.

All student recruitment agents attending the workshop undergo ICEF's selection and screening process which is considered to be the most stringent in the industry. The agents come from over 30 countries around the Middle East, Africa and South Asia and have an active interest to partner with a broad selection of potential education partners. Educators in attendance in 2009 represented all institutional types: university & vocational 43%, language 35%, secondary 15% and multi sectoral 7%.

During the event educators hold pre-scheduled, one-to-one business meetings with relevant and quality recruitment agents, with the dual objective of appointing new representatives and maintaining existing business relationships. In addition to appointments with agents, educational institutions can also meet with each other to set up exchange programmes, twinning arrangements and joint ventures.

With personal contacts being so important in this part of the world, the workshop schedule also includes workshop meals, refreshment breaks and evening receptions which offer further valuable networking opportunities in a relaxed atmosphere.
