The US Agent Training Course (USATC), created and developed by ICEF, is the first of its kind and supports professional development for agents specialising in the USA as a study destination. The USATC equips you with a firm foundation in the benefits and structure of the US education system, and offers resources to help you steer international students to the most appropriate institutions to meet their goals.
About the course

The USATC syllabus includes:
- Context around how and why the US is the world’s top study destination.
- Comprehensive coverage of the study options and qualifications available in the US, at all levels.
- The knowledge and skills to work effectively with US institutions.
- Information to help students prepare for living and studying in the US.
- Specialist insights allowing you to guide students to their ideal US study experience.
Why study the USATC?
The course builds your specialist knowledge of the world’s most competitive international study destination. Developed by ICEF, and harnessing 30 years of international education expertise, the USATC is ideal for new counsellors entering the sector, those wishing to gain a competitive edge in US student recruitment, and for any international education professionals looking to expand their knowledge of a complex education system.
Why take the exam?
An official qualification is available to all candidates who complete the course and pass the USATC exam. Successful graduates will receive a qualification badge with a unique ID number and a certificate confirming them as a US Course Graduate (USCG), with the recognition of being an ICEF-qualified USA consultant for the international education industry. Graduates are also entered in the Qualified Education Agents (QEA) network, containing the names and company contact details of more than 16,000 qualified agents worldwide. ICEF-trained agents are sought after by education institutions worldwide.
The USATC exam can be taken online or in person at some ICEF events.
You will be notified of your results within 5 working days if taking the exam online. If taken in person results are available immediately upon completion.
Successful participants will receive the US Course Graduate (USCG) certificate.
There are no specific pre-requisites for taking the USATC, however minimum English language proficiency of IELTS 5.0/TOEFL PBT 500/TOEL iBT 61 is advised.
Participation in ICEF events is not required to take the course.
Studying the USATC is free, and delivered in a modular, self-paced format.
To receive the USATC certification you will be required to take the final exam (€295). The exam fee includes up to 3 attempts (if required).
Discounts are available for multiple bookings for counsellors within the same agency or to members of educational agency associations that enter into an agreement with USATC.
