[bio] => Fanta Aw, PhD, has been a dedicated member and leader within NAFSA since 1996 and currently holds the position of Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer. From 2013 to 2016, she served as NAFSA's President and Board Chair. Dr. Aw is a recognized and highly respected figure in the fields of international education and higher education administration.
Dr. Aw dedicated her academic and professional careers to American University (AU) in Washington, D.C., where she achieved several degrees. Her accomplishments include a BS in accounting, an MA in public administration with a specialisation in organisational development, and a PhD in sociology with a focus on international education, social stratification, and transnational migration.
Throughout her extensive tenure at AU, Dr. Aw held numerous leadership positions, most recently serving as Vice President of Undergraduate Enrollment, Campus Life, and Inclusive Excellence. Notably, she received recognition as an award-winning teacher, having fulfilled the role of Hurst Senior Professorial Lecturer at AU's School of International Service. In 2023, Dr. Aw's remarkable AU contributions were honoured with the Neil Kerwin Alumni Achievement Award. Furthermore, she actively participates as a member of the Global Advisory Board of Times Higher Education and has previously chaired the board of ETS TOEFL.
Originally hailing from Mali, West Africa, Dr. Aw has resided in both East and West Africa, as well as the United States, fostering a broad and diverse cultural perspective. Her passion for global experiences has led her to explore nearly 60 countries. Dr. Aw is a frequent keynote speaker, sharing her expertise on various topics including international educational exchanges, diversity and inclusion in higher education, and U.S. immigration. He has over 30 years’ experience managing international scholarship and student exchange programs and has lived and worked in Brazil, Chile, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and the United States.

[bio] => Dr. Zaid Zabanoot, an accomplished professional with a remarkable 23-year career that embodies a fusion of academic excellence, strategic leadership, and cultural diplomacy. Holding a Ph.D. and Master's degree earned in the United Kingdom, along with a Bachelor of Engineering from Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) in Oman, Dr. Zabanoot is a distinguished individual whose journey has left an indelible mark on the landscape of higher education.
Dr. Zabanoot commenced their career in academia, dedicating 16 years to the field and ascending from the role of a lecturer to ultimately serving as a Dean. Notably, they were a vital force in the establishment of three new higher education institutions in Oman, contributing significantly to the expansion and enhancement of educational opportunities in the country.
In a strategic shift, Dr. Zabanoot transitioned to a pivotal role as the General Director of Planning and Development in the Ministry of Higher Education, where they served for four years. Prof. Taher pursued bachelor, master, and PhD degrees at the University of Baghdad in 2007 ,2001, and 2014 respectively.
In addition, Prof. Taher has got a higher diploma in 2002 from the Institute of Graduate Studies in Information Technology.
Prof. Taher gained recognition for his scientific, academic, and professional career after assuming his initial roles as a lecturer and chair of department at Thi Qar University in the College of Science. He later served as the director of the Computer Center, besides his position as the dean of the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the same university.

From 2013 to 2016, she served as NAFSA's President and Board Chair. Dr. Aw is a recognized and highly respected figure in the fields of international education and higher education administration.
Dr. Aw dedicated her academic and professional careers to American University (AU) in Washington, D.C., where she achieved several degrees. Her accomplishments include a BS in accounting, an MA in public administration with a specialisation in organisational development, and a PhD in sociology with a focus on international education, social stratification, and transnational migration.
Throughout her extensive tenure at AU, Dr. Aw held numerous leadership positions, most recently serving as Vice President of Undergraduate Enrollment, Campus Life, and Inclusive Excellence. Notably, she received recognition as an award-winning teacher, having fulfilled the role of Hurst Senior Professorial Lecturer at AU's School of International Service. In 2023, Dr. Aw's remarkable AU contributions were honoured with the Neil Kerwin Alumni Achievement Award. Furthermore, she actively participates as a member of the Global Advisory Board of Times Higher Education and has previously chaired the board of ETS TOEFL.
Originally hailing from Mali, West Africa, Dr. Aw has resided in both East and West Africa, as well as the United States, fostering a broad and diverse cultural perspective. Her passion for global experiences has led her to explore nearly 60 countries. Dr. Aw is a frequent keynote speaker, sharing her expertise on various topics including international educational exchanges, diversity and inclusion in higher education, and U.S. immigration. [bio] => Dr. Raed Mohammed BenShams is a distinguished leader and expert in public administration and management. He has devoted his 39-year career to advancing Bahrain’s development goals through various fields, such as capacity building, youth empowerment, policy making, and public innovation. He has led many successful projects at local, regional, and international levels.
Dr. BenShams is the current President of the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS), an influential organisation with 54 state members and numerous academic and practitioner corporates. He was elected for the second term for his achievements in reviving the organisation from financial crisis.
Dr. BenShams is also the Advisor for the Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Public Services Development. He was the founder and former Director General of the Bahrain Institute for Public Administration (BIPA) for 16 years, where he introduced innovative programs and projects in training, research, and consultancy. He was also the founder and former President of the Middle East and North Africa Public Administration Research (MENAPAR) Network, one of the six members of the UN Global Thinkers Network.
Dr. BenShams has received numerous awards for his contributions to the public sector, including the medal of Achievement of the First Level from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He also received the GCC Youth Medal for his efforts towards empowering youth. He has a rich background in the public and private sectors, and holds a PhD in Organisational Behavior and Strategic Management from the University of Bradford, UK. He is also an eminent speaker and author with several publications.

[bio] => Professor Dr. Hazeem Baqir Taher has been the Director General of Scholarships and Cultural Relations at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Iraq since .2020
Prof. Taher pursued bachelor, master, and PhD degrees at the University of Baghdad in 2007 ,2001, and 2014 respectively.
In addition, Prof. Taher has got a higher diploma in 2002 from the Institute of Graduate Studies in Information Technology.
Prof. Taher gained recognition for his scientific, academic, and professional career after assuming his initial roles as a lecturer and chair of department at Thi Qar University in the College of Science. He later served as the director of the Computer Center, besides his position as the dean of the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the same university.
Prof. Taher has been contributing to a number of strategic studies, such as writing the scholarships strategy for the Higher Committee for Education Development in Iraq, as well as improving higher education strategy in the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. He fulfilled roles as a lecturer, researcher, and supervisor for postgraduate students at various universities, both in Iraq and abroad. He has been attending many local and international conferences. He plays a crucial role as a chair or member of various committees across academic, government, scientific, and administrative levels, all of which focus on promoting scientific and social aspects.

[bio] => Fanta Aw, PhD, has been a dedicated member and leader within NAFSA since 1996 and currently holds the position of Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer. From 2013 to 2016, she served as NAFSA's President and Board Chair. Dr. Aw is a recognized and highly respected figure in the fields of international education and higher education administration.
Dr. Aw dedicated her academic and professional careers to American University (AU) in Washington, D.C., where she achieved several degrees. Her accomplishments include a BS in accounting, an MA in public administration with a specialisation in organisational development, and a PhD in sociology with a focus on international education, social stratification, and transnational migration.
Throughout her extensive tenure at AU, Dr. Aw held numerous leadership positions, most recently serving as Vice President of Undergraduate Enrollment, Campus Life, and Inclusive Excellence. Notably, she received recognition as an award-winning teacher, having fulfilled the role of Hurst Senior Professorial Lecturer at AU's School of International Service. In 2023, Dr. Aw's remarkable AU contributions were honoured with the Neil Kerwin Alumni Achievement Award. Furthermore, she actively participates as a member of the Global Advisory Board of Times Higher Education and has previously chaired the board of ETS TOEFL.
Originally hailing from Mali, West Africa, Dr. Aw has resided in both East and West Africa, as well as the United States, fostering a broad and diverse cultural perspective. Her passion for global experiences has led her to explore nearly 60 countries. Dr. Aw is a frequent keynote speaker, sharing her expertise on various topics including international educational exchanges, diversity and inclusion in higher education, and U.S. immigration. [bio] => Dr. Raed Mohammed BenShams is a distinguished leader and expert in public administration and management. He has devoted his 39-year career to advancing Bahrain’s development goals through various fields, such as capacity building, youth empowerment, policy making, and public innovation. He has led many successful projects at local, regional, and international levels.
Dr. BenShams is the current President of the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS), an influential organisation with 54 state members and numerous academic and practitioner corporates. He was elected for the second term for his achievements in reviving the organisation from financial crisis.
Dr. BenShams is also the Advisor for the Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Public Services Development. He was the founder and former Director General of the Bahrain Institute for Public Administration (BIPA) for 16 years, where he introduced innovative programs and projects in training, research, and consultancy. He was also the founder and former President of the Middle East and North Africa Public Administration Research (MENAPAR) Network, one of the six members of the UN Global Thinkers Network.
Dr. BenShams has received numerous awards for his contributions to the public sector, including the medal of Achievement of the First Level from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He also received the GCC Youth Medal for his efforts towards empowering youth. He has a rich background in the public and private sectors, and holds a PhD in Organisational Behavior and Strategic Management from the University of Bradford, UK. He is also an eminent speaker and author with several publications.

Craig E. Hastings is an advisor to the Abu Dhabi Scholarships Division at the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK), where he has worked for the past four years. He has over 30 years’ experience managing international scholarship and student exchange programs and has lived and worked in Brazil, Chile, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and the United States.
His previous positions include executive director of university preparation programs at Ajyal Talent Management (Abu Dhabi, UAE); regional director of operations, Latin America and the Caribbean at CIEE (Santiago, Chile and São Paulo, Brazil); manager, specialised enrichment at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST, Thuwal, Saudi Arabia); and deputy director of LASPAU, a nonprofit scholarship management affiliate of Harvard University, where he worked for 20 years. Craig graduated from Clark University with a BA in French and Spanish and a concentration in international relations. He received his EdM in administration, planning, and social policy from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.

Holding a Ph.D. and Master's degree earned in the United Kingdom, along with a Bachelor of Engineering from Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) in Oman, Dr. Zabanoot is a distinguished individual whose journey has left an indelible mark on the landscape of higher education.
Dr. Zabanoot commenced their career in academia, dedicating 16 years to the field and ascending from the role of a lecturer to ultimately serving as a Dean. Notably, they were a vital force in the establishment of three new higher education institutions in Oman, contributing significantly to the expansion and enhancement of educational opportunities in the country.
In a strategic shift, Dr. Zabanoot transitioned to a pivotal role as the General Director of Planning and Development in the Ministry of Higher Education, where they served for four years. In this capacity, their visionary leadership and strategic insights played a pivotal role in shaping and advancing the higher education sector in Oman.
Currently, Dr. Zabanoot serves as a Cultural Attaché, a role that underscores their commitment to fostering international collaboration and understanding. Professor Dr. Hazeem Baqir Taher has been the Director General of Scholarships and Cultural Relations at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Iraq since .2020
Prof. Taher pursued bachelor, master, and PhD degrees at the University of Baghdad in 2007 ,2001, and 2014 respectively.
In addition, Prof. Taher has got a higher diploma in 2002 from the Institute of Graduate Studies in Information Technology.
Prof. Taher gained recognition for his scientific, academic, and professional career after assuming his initial roles as a lecturer and chair of department at Thi Qar University in the College of Science. He later served as the director of the Computer Center, besides his position as the dean of the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the same university.
Prof. Taher has been contributing to a number of strategic studies, such as writing the scholarships strategy for the Higher Committee for Education Development in Iraq, as well as improving higher education strategy in the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. He fulfilled roles as a lecturer, researcher, and supervisor for postgraduate students at various universities, both in Iraq and abroad. He has been attending many local and international conferences. He plays a crucial role as a chair or member of various committees across academic, government, scientific, and administrative levels, all of which focus on promoting scientific and social aspects.

Michael has been working in higher education in Canada and the United Arab Emirates for over three decades.
