Quality and diversity – the key to the continued success of the ICEF Higher Education Workshop

The 2015 ICEF Higher Education Workshop held in Glasgow, Scotland provided international higher education institutions, service providers and agents with the opportunity to connect, forge new partnerships and to share knowledge.

During the three-day event, attendees participated in 12 seminars, 2 receptions, over 2300 pre-scheduled meetings, and countless informal networking opportunities.

In total 274 participants attended the workshop. This included 112 educators from higher education institutions in 24 countries, and 15 exhibitors from Germany, UK, USA, Australia and Canada. This year saw an increase in the number of French institutions at the event, bringing France into the top 5 educator countries. Joining France in the top five were USA, UK, Canada, and Spain.

This year, 136 agents from 47 countries participated in the Higher Education Workshop. Once again a strong emphasis on screening and approving new agents for the event meant that regular participants could also establish new partnerships. Of the 136 agents at the event, 49% were attending their first ever ICEF Higher Education Workshop.

During ICEF Events, agents have the opportunity to take the qualifying exam for the ICEF Agent Training Course. In Glasgow Irina Moskalenko from TME Education Abroad (Ukraine) became our 846th ICEF Trained Agent Counsellor (ITAC). This certification reflects Irina’s commitment to excellent service to both her students and partners around the world – Congratulations Irina. Educators, service providers and agents were all extremely happy with their workshop experience. Tereza Novotna from Charles University in the Czech Republic said “The ICEF Higher Education Workshop is time well spent. It offers an opportunity to meet professionals in our field and have good conversations. The best thing is the quality and number of agents in one place and at one time. An added bonus is that I always learn something new about the market from the agents. Not least, it is also a great chance to talk to other educators and share knowledge. Overall the workshop provides a unique atmosphere.”

Agent, Abid Shabir of Maria Consultancy London also had a great experience, “It was a very valuable and informative event. We made lots of contracts with higher education institutions. All in all the experience was super. We were able to hold almost 40 appointments. It was very easy to meet institutions that we did not have an appointment with at break times and at the receptions.”

Social events such as the welcome and evening receptions gave participants the chance to make further connections in a relaxed atmosphere. In Glasgow, participants enjoyed Scottish bagpipe music and were able to participate in traditional highland dancing.
