On June 14-16, 2017 over 350 participants from 26 countries came together at the inaugural ICEF Southeast Asia Workshop in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Rising family incomes, a growing economy and high demand for quality education make Vietnam an important, emerging market for international educators and the ideal host country for ICEF’s newest workshop. The event was sold out with a waitlist of educators wanting to attend.
A total of 153 educators from 21 countries including the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Germany participated in the ICEF Southeast Asia Workshop. Out of all the educators in attendance, 47% represented higher education institutions.
An ambitious goal set by the Vietnamese government – to have ‘the majority of youths able to use a foreign language proficiently by 2020’ – has created a high demand for language courses abroad. This trend was reflected at the ICEF workshop this year, with 79% of participating institutions offering language courses.
“I was very impressed with the quality of the new agent contacts I made at this event. They were professional, prepared and enthusiastic,” said Erin Adams, Global Village English Centres, Canada.
The workshop hosted 173 agents from 10 countries in the region including Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, and southern China. An impressive 31% of all participating agents attended their very first ICEF workshop.
“Thank you for your well organised event. I have met and communicated with educators and services providers and found unique programs. The agent workshop is very effective and professional,” said Karin Nguyen, PSC Education and Migration, Vietnam.
In addition, the workshop included an extensive seminar programme featuring topics on recent industry trends and news such as legal implications on direct recruitment in Vietnam, the study abroad market in Thailand, and working with agents in exclusive markets.
Due to this year’s success and tremendous interest, ICEF announced that the ICEF Southeast Asia Workshop will take place again on June 13-15, 2018. For more information, visit http://www.icef.com/sea.
