ICEF NORTH AMERICA WORKSHOP

ICEF's Toronto Debut Sets the Pace

The ICEF North America Workshop came to Toronto from May 13–15 and—with a complete sell out weeks in advance and 16% growth over the latest Miami workshop in December 2009—was a resoundingly successful Canadian debut. This destination-focused event exclusively features educators and service providers from Canada and the United States. The Toronto workshop saw 195 delegates from 153 institutions in more than 4,800 one-to-one meetings with 219 carefully screened international agents from 53 countries. "As soon as I started my meetings it was clear that only well vetted agents were present," said Juan Tavares of Western Michigan University (US).

"We are tremendously satisfied - it has been one of our best recruitment investments ever!" said Manuela Lefranc of Lakefield College School (Canada). Agents, meanwhile, were also impressed by the educational institutions represented in Toronto. Oyu Bayarsaikhan of New Voice Agency in Mongolia said, "I met education providers who rank among the best in the world!"

The Toronto seminar programme featured well-attended sessions on best practices for working with agents and universities as well as a special preview of the newly launched ICEF Agent Training Course.

A dinner and dance reception at Casa Loma, a historic castle-style residence was one of many informal networking opportunities in Toronto, allowing participants to get to know each other in a relaxed setting. The reception was thoroughly enjoyed by all. "It was excellent – the location, food and ambience were all great!" said Stuart McIlmoyle from Abbotsford School District in Canada.

Destination-focused events such as the North America Workshop provide associations and institutions with the opportunity to showcase their campuses, cities and regions through agent familiarisation (FAM) tours. This year, 15 FAM tours were offered to destinations throughout Canada and the US, many of which were quickly booked out by agents.

Building on the destination marketing momentum from Toronto, ICEF is pleased to announce that the next North America Workshop will be held in Miami, Florida from December 5–7, 2010.

ICEF Expands With Canadian Office and New Workshop in Vancouver

Canada is one of the world's leading study destinations. The economic impact of international education in the country has recently been estimated at CDN$6.5 billion, and institutions across the country are now further expanding their international recruitment efforts. In the Province of Ontario alone, the government has recently announced plans to increase international student enrollment by 50% over the next five years.

Against this dynamic backdrop, ICEF has continued to expand its Canadian operations. One year after opening its first-ever Canadian office, and now with first successful Toronto event to its credit, ICEF has just announced plans to hold an annual agent workshop in Canada.

As was the case in Toronto, the workshop will remain a destination-focused event open exclusively to educators from Canada and the US.

The workshop location will alternate each year between Vancouver and Toronto, with the first-ever ICEF Vancouver Workshop scheduled for May 26–28, 2011, immediately prior to the 2011 NAFSA Conference taking place in the same city. Please see the ICEF Vancouver video for a special preview.
