The research firm Mintel measured the global work and travel market at £6 billion in 2005 and forecasts that the sector will reach £11 billion (US$22 billion or €15 billion) and two million trips per year by 2010. Read more... In its first full year of operation, ICEF Online, the world's first Internet platform for educators and agents, has grown into a community of more than 900 members. ICEF Online Director Rod Hearps underscored the importance of this during his feature presentation at the ICEF Berlin Workshop in November. "[ICEF Online] is not about the technology or the platform itself," said Hearps. "It's about the community of members that use the platform as a way to communicate, work together, and do business with one another." Read more... Berlin Workshop Sets New Record The ICEF Berlin Workshop set an attendance record again in 2007, confirming Berlin's place as the largest and by far the most international agent workshop in the world. The 2007 workshop was held at the Berlin Intercontinental from November 4-6. 1,566 delegates from 1,061 organisations and 88 countries attended—representing an increase of 9% over the 2006 attendance and a remarkable 36% increase since 2005. Key Findings From i-graduate's First Agent Barometer Study In one of the best-attended market intelligence seminars at this year's Berlin Workshop, i-graduate Director Will Archer released the initial findings from the research firm's new Agent Barometer study. This innovative study was conducted in partnership with ICEF in summer 2007 and aims to gather new insights into the needs and perceptions of education agents working across the world. The initial findings from this year are based on responses from 880 agents from 115 countries—39% of which were based in Asia and 37% in Europe. Read more... ICEF Americas Up By 44% Over 2006 The 2007 ICEF Americas Workshop has just concluded in Miami with 391 delegates from 51 countries gathering for the largest ICEF Americas Workshop ever. The workshop was fully booked in October, and achieved a remarkable 44% growth in attendance over 2006. Watch for an event report in our next issue. Dubai is Booking Up Quickly The 2008 ICEF Middle East Workshop (Dubai, February 3-5) is filling up quickly but limited space is still available for those wishing to attend. The 2007 workshop in Dubai brought together participants from more than 40 countries, including carefully selected agencies from 20 countries around the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia.
