The Bright Lights of Tokyo

Japan is one of the biggest contributors of students to study destinations worldwide, making ICEF's Japan Workshop a must-attend event for educational institutions. A total of 266 participants from 186 organisations attended the Tokyo Workshop in March 2007, representing 11% growth over 2006 and solidifying the workshop as the largest and most international event of its kind in Japan.

Tokyo, the site of the ICEF Japan Workshop.

Workshop attendees enjoyed socialising and networking at the modern Keio Plaza Hotel, located in the heart of the bustling shopping and business district of Shinjuku. During one-to-one appointments, 96 education providers from 16 countries met with Japanese-only agents; the top five countries from which education providers came were the US, the UK, Spain, Canada, and Australia.

Tami Tsurumaki, of Aimsmart Consulting in Japan, provided an agent's perspective on the Tokyo Workshop: "We are a small company whose number of staff is limited. I have found that the workshop is a very good opportunity for us to learn useful information … without actually going to many different countries, which would take too much time."

The international education providers who attended commented on the quality of Japanese agents. Hans-Georg Albers (Carl Duisberg Centren GmbH, Germany) noted the "carefully selected agents" and said he "found it particularly good to have the opportunity to meet many agents from outside Tokyo."

Sheila Hoffman-Hicks (College of St. Scholastica, US) appreciated that the "advance screening process allowed us to focus only on the agencies that were looking to work with Intensive English Programs in the US. Every agent we met was interested in the very programs we offer. No time wasted for either party!"

An extensive photo gallery from Tokyo is now available on the ICEF website, as is a video from this year's ICEF Japan Workshop.

The next Japan Workshop will take place March 3 to 5, 2008.
