New ICEF Higher Education Workshop in Trondheim

Trondheim, Norway. Site of the 2007 ICEF Higher Education Workshop

From 2005 to 2006, there was a 50% increase in the number of higher education (HE) institutions attending ICEF workshops. At the same time, many agents have indicated to ICEF that they are actively promoting HE programmes. An important trend is clearly underway.

For this reason, ICEF is launching a new workshop devoted specifically to higher education. The first such workshop is scheduled for September 10 and 11, 2007, in Trondheim, Norway.

Trondheim will also host the European Association for International Education (EAIE) Conference September 12 to 15, one of the major events for the European HE sector. The EAIE has 1700+ members devoted to the internationalisation of higher education. The ICEF Higher Education Workshop will be scheduled in conjunction with the annual EAIE conference to facilitate the participation of leading agents and top-ranked HE institutions.

In fact, European universities have a particular interest in internationalisation at present, in large part because of the Bologna Accord of 1999. Signatories to this accord (now numbering 45 European countries) have pledged to reform the structures of their higher education systems to create convergence on a continent-wide level. The Bologna Accord means that international students can now attend multi-country programmes within Europe that offer internationally recognised degrees.

The increased transparency and choice afforded by the Bologna Accord gives non-EU students more reason than ever to study at European HE institutions. Realising how significant a market international students represent, these institutions are trying to make the most of the potential. Growing numbers of them are also charging fees to international students.

Only officially recognised HE institutions covering both undergraduate and graduate programmes will be at the ICEF Workshop in Trondheim. They will come mainly from Europe, but also from North America and other world regions. As for agents, those at the Trondheim Workshop have been pre-selected according to established ICEF standards as well as additional criteria specific to the HE and European market. Please see the ICEF website for more on the ICEF Higher Education Workshop. (Note: The mid-term discount rate for the ICEF Higher Education Workshop in Trondheim expires on June 1.)
